Dwayne Johnson Transforms Into Mark Kerr for Upcoming MMA Film

First Look at "The Smashing Machine" Unveiled

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to portray former MMA/UFC champion Mark Kerr in a new film titled "The Smashing Machine." The film will be based on the true events surrounding Kerr's life and career.

On Tuesday, A24, the independent studio producing the film, released a first look at Johnson as Kerr, with production already underway. Johnson took to Instagram to share a post detailing his training with Kerr, the famed MMA fighter at the center of the film.

"I'm honored to bring Mark Kerr's incredible story to the big screen," Johnson said in his Instagram post. "He's a true warrior and a legend in the MMA world. I can't wait to share his story with audiences around the globe."

Kerr, known as "The Smashing Machine," was a dominant force in the MMA/UFC during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was known for his aggressive fighting style and his ability to withstand punishment. Kerr's career was cut short due to injuries and personal struggles, but he remains a respected figure in the MMA community.

The film is directed by Peter Berg, who previously worked with Johnson on the 2018 film "Skyscraper." The screenplay is written by Sean O'Keefe, who has written several acclaimed sports films, including "The Blind Side" and "Miracle."

No release date for "The Smashing Machine" has been announced yet, but the film is expected to hit theaters in 2024.
